This, the Spring 2015 issue of The Objective Standard, begins our tenth year of publication; so let me start by extending a hearty thank-you to all of our subscribers and donors who have supported our vital work over the years.

Charlie Hebdo’s Moral Endurance
Craig Biddle January 13, 2015
Although TOS does not approve of the bizarre message in this cartoon (a tearful Muhammad under the header “All is forgiven” holding a sign saying “I am Charlie”), we profoundly approve of Charlie Hebdo’s persistence and refusal to be silenced by jihadists. Here’s to the courageous men and women involved in this magazine.

Spiritual Complicity in Islamic Atrocities
Craig Biddle January 11, 2015
Those who whitewash Islam thereby spiritually aid the jihadists. Although such aid to the enemy may be legal, it is nevertheless evil. It is time for all civilized people to acknowledge that to pretend Islam is not evil is to bear some measure of responsibility for the atrocities committed in its name.

In Support of Charlie Hebdo and Freedom of Speech
Craig Biddle January 8, 2015
We at The Objective Standard extend our deepest condolences to the victims of the jihadist attack in Paris yesterday. We post the "offending" cartoons here in the spirit of Charlie Hebdo and its editor, Stephane Charbonnier, who famously said, “I'd rather die standing than live on my knees.” We couldn’t agree more.

The Equality Equivocation
Craig Biddle November 20, 2014
Addresses a key aspect of the left's "equality" agenda that muddies Americans' thinking on the issue and enables the left to turn people's good intentions against their genuine interests.

Thank You, Veterans
Craig Biddle November 11, 2014
To all veterans who have defended Americans’ rights and liberties: Thank you. Thank you for applying your minds, developing your skills, and protecting Americans from those who have sought to harm us. Were it not for you, courageous veterans, America and the liberties we enjoy today simply would not exist.

The Evil of Whitewashing Islam
Craig Biddle October 26, 2014
One religion today regularly motivates large numbers of its followers to murder, behead, rape, and enslave people across the globe. That religion is Islam. Not Christianity. Not Judaism. Not Buddhism. Islam. Only Islam. Everyone paying attention knows this. Yet some choose to whitewash the religion.

Anniversary of the Iran-Sponsored Murder of 241 Americans in Lebanon
Craig Biddle October 24, 2014
America's refusal to eliminate the Iranian regime shows that many Americans care more about not being called names than they do about defending themselves and their loved ones.

Caroline Glick and Michael Ledeen on a Golden Opportunity Regarding Iran
Craig Biddle October 11, 2014
Here is yet another golden opportunity for the United States and Israel to help foment a pro-freedom (or at least anti-theocracy) revolution in Iran that could end our shared number-one enemy and the enemy of all freedom-loving Iranians: the Iranian theocracy. Boroujerdi’s popularity and predicament amount to a powder keg that needs only to be ignited.

A Thirty-Year War—If Americans Will Have It
Craig Biddle October 9, 2014
Leon Panetta, former director of the CIA and secretary of defense, says that defeating our enemies in the Middle East and North Africa will require a thirty-year war. The only reason Americans will accept a long war is that they have lost (or never gained) confidence in their right to defend themselves against those who seek to kill them.

State Department Endorses Handbook Calling Jihad “Noble”
Craig Biddle October 8, 2014
The U.S. State Department has endorsed a handbook titled United Against Terrorism, published by a Muslim group in Canada. The handbook recommends (among other things) that "Jihad is a noble concept in Islam." Will Americans continue to permit our government to call our Islamic enemy a non-Islamic enemy?

FEE Debate: Is Liberty Best Defended with One Moral Foundation or Many?
Craig Biddle September 24, 2014
On the Foundation for Economic Education’s website, Max Borders and Craig Biddle debate the question of whether liberty is best defended by reference to a single, demonstrably true moral foundation or a diversity of moral perspectives. Check out the debate, and vote for the side you think makes the most sense.
